Sussex buoyed by Nash injury news

Sussex batsman Chris Nash could be back in action by mid-June after his freak boundary injury at Canterbury on Sunday turned out not as bad as first thought.

Nash, 26, was taken to hospital with a suspected broken leg after colliding with team-mate Dwayne Smith during their Twenty20 Cup defeat by Kent.

But X-rays have revealed that there was no break, only deep tissue damage, and he was discharged on Sunday night.

It is estimated that Nash will now be out for 10 to 14 days.

That should enable him to be fit to play in Sussex's final four Twenty20 games, when the domestic competition resumes on 22 June following the break for the ICC World Twenty20.

Nash's injury led to a 15-minute hold-up during the game while he was taken to hospital by ambulance.

He was injured following a collision with Smith as they both tried to catch Kent match-winner Geraint Jones at long leg.

Seeing the boundary ropes and the flying Nash out the corner of his eye, Smith actually caught the ball and tossed it up again. But the two fielders collided, Nash coming off the worse.
