Gateshead's James Curtis handed injury return boost

James Curtis
Curtis has been absent since the draw against Tamworth earlier in the month

Gateshead defender James Curtis will return to action earlier than expected after results showed there was no break to the fifth metatarsal in his foot.

Curtis' initial diagnosis suggested he would be absent until January, but news that the injury is soft tissue damage has advanced his recovery.

"It is a real bonus to know I'll be back sooner rather than later," Curtis told the club website.

"I don't want to put a date on my return and I won't rush the injury."

Curtis added: "If it is still sore then I won't risk it but it's great news that the original fracture hasn't been broken again.

With Tim Deasy and Paul Heckingbottom also making good recovery from their injuries we should be back to full strength in the near future.

Gateshead boss Ian Bogie

"It is getting better day by day and if I only miss three games that will great as I expected it be at least ten."

The news is also a boost for boss Ian Bogie who had been impressed by Curtis' return from injury earlier in the season prior to his latest set-back.

"It was disappointing to be without Curtis at the start of the season," Bogie said.

"With Tim Deasy and Paul Heckingbottom also making good recovery from their injuries we should be back to full strength in the near future."
