Fowler suffered his injury just 12 minutes into the friendly against Exeter
Forest Green have confirmed that Mike Fowler suffered a career-threatening ankle injury in Saturday's final pre-season friendly against Exeter.
Welshman Fowler dislocated his ankle, broke it in three places and damaged his ligaments in a freak accident.
An operation on the 27-year-old midfielder's injury has been postponed until the swelling goes down.
He only joined Forest Green in mid-July from Salisbury and is now expected to be out for the entire 2009-10 season.
Fowler was due to face his brother Lee, who left the New Lawn in the summer to join Kettering, in this Saturday's opening round of matches in the Blue Square Premier.
He was initially admitted to Gloucestershire Royal Hospital but is being transferred to University Hospital, Cardiff to be closer to his family in South Wales.
