Liam Daish considers part-time Ebbsfleet future

Ebbsfleet United manager Liam Daish is approaching some of his players from last season to see if they will play part-time football next term.

Fleet currently have no playing staff because of financial problems following their relegation last season.

He told BBC Radio Kent: "I spoke to a few but I'm just sounding players out.

"They've been left in limbo, which I am not comfortable about but there may be players who might still want to be a part of this football club."

Ebbsfleet had been full time for five years until going down into the Blue Square Bet South and Daish accepts his desire to remain full time is unrealistic.

"We can't afford to remain full time in the league we are now in and I think being a realist we haven't got the infrastructure to remain full time. We only offered 43 week contracts last year, even though we were full time."

But Daish fears his search for the best of the part-time players might be hindered by the fact that his main targets have already found clubs.

"The best part-time players in the south east will have been snapped up now. We used to step in late and it looks like we will be doing the same this year."

This time last year Ebbsfleet had three players signed on and Daish had to assemble a side using pre-season as a trial, but this year will be the same as he starts from a playing staff of none.

They have just two pre-season friendlies arranged, at Aveley and Chatham.
