Gillingham midfielder Danny Jackman praised his team-mates for responding to a four match winless streak by thrashing Hereford 6-1 on Saturday.
The 28-year-old told BBC Radio Kent: "It was testament to the boys up front and how hard they worked.
"The manager said if you keep working hard, you'll get your rewards. It will give us a massive boost."
Jackman scored the fourth goal to inflict Hereford's worst league defeat in more than three years.
Gillingham began the season with their best start in 16 years but prior to the Hereford win, the Gills had lost three of their last four.
But Jackman said that with the quality of the players at Priestfield, their slump would always have been short-lived.
"It emphasises that we are a good squad and a couple of results don't make a whole season," he said.
"People tend to think if you have a couple of blips then it's all doom and gloom.
"We've got good quality. If you have belief in your ability, results will sort themselves out."
Five different Gillingham players found the scoresheet, including new loan signing Frank Nouble on debut, as well as a Joe Heath own goal.
On his strike, Jackman said: "I don't get too many. The lads are winding me up saying it was a cross but I did genuinely mean it.
"It was nice to score and hopefully I can get a few more this season."
