Commons joined Derby on a free transfer in June 2008
Derby County striker Kris Commons has said he wants to stay at the club and is hoping to agree a new contract.
The 26-year-old, who joined the Rams from rivals Nottingham Forest in 2008, has a contract which is set to expire at the end of the season.
But Commons told BBC Radio Derby: "Of course I want to stay, without a doubt. I'd like to think that something will be sorted by the end of the season."
The former Stoke trainee has scored once in four starts this season.
Commons continued: "This is exactly the same position as I was in at Forest, wanting to stay, wanting a new contract that never came, and then you get put in the position that you have to start looking elsewhere.
"But I don't want to even have to start looking elsewhere, I'm hoping Derby will come up with the goods and I can have it wrapped up by New Year."
Derby face QPR at Pride Park in the Championship on Saturday, 28 August.
