Buxton joined Derby last summer

Derby County defender Jake Buxton is to undergo surgery to correct an ongoing groin injury.

The 25-year-old former Mansfield and Burton central defender was restricted to 24 appearances for the Rams last season because of the injury.

Head physio Neil Sullivan told the club website: "Jake's groin has not settled and he is having surgery [on Tuesday] to hopefully solve the problem.

"He should be up and running in four to six weeks."

Buxton is expected to miss the majority of Derby's pre-season programme.
