We'll wait and see what the medical people say but it doesn't look too good
Nigel Clough on Giles Barnes
Derby County midfielder Giles Barnes is expected to be ruled out for several months with a ruptured Achilles tendon.
Barnes was injured during Saturday's pre-season friendly with Stoke and will undergo surgery on Wednesday.
Medical staff will not know exactly how long the 21-year-old will be sidelined for until after the operation.
But the likely diagnosis is for months rather than weeks and, if the worst fears are confirmed, Barnes could be out for most if not all of the season.
Following Saturday's 2-2 draw with the Premier League side, boss Nigel Clough told BBC Radio Derby that the injury to Barnes was a major worry and he is eager to bring in some more new faces.
"Giles felt something in his Achilles. I think it was a combination of a kick and the way he fell," Clough said.
"We'll wait and see what the medical people say but it doesn't look too good at the moment.
"We'd like to bolster the squad and we've asked about a midfielder and defender.
"We're still waiting for a decision from a couple of league clubs."
Stephen Pearson and Arnaud Mendy grabbed the goals as the Rams twice came from behind to earn a draw against the Potters.
