Werling appeared 19 times for Barnsley during his eight-month spell
Darlington boss Mark Cooper says he is expecting defender Dominik Werling to leave the club.
Cooper did not pick the 27-year-old former Huddersfield player for his first game in charge as the home side won 1-0 against Newport County.
"Dom has told me he's not happy and he wants to go, which is disappointing as he's a good player," Cooper told the club website.
"But he's under contract so we're not letting him go for nothing."
He added: "If he wants to go to another club in Germany or any other side then most managers have got my number or can get it and are free to make an offer."
German Werling signed for Darlington from Huddersfield in 2009 after spells at Barnsley and Turkish side Sakaryaspor.
