Crewe striker Calvin Zola aiming to stay injury-free
Calvin Zola ended last season as Crewe's top scorer with 18 goals
Crewe striker Calvin Zola has said he is confident he can stay free from injuries during the upcoming campaign after a series of problems last season.
Zola, 25, managed only 30 starts in League Two for the Alex in 2009/10.
He told BBC Radio Stoke: "I had a season where I've played the most games that I probably ever have in my career.
"If I can go one step further that's going to be a massive bonus for me. I'm sure I can go throughout the whole season and remain injury-free."
Despite suffering from persistent groin and ankle problems, the Congo striker comfortably finished as Crewe's top scorer with 18 goals in all competitions.
However, 14 of those goals came before the turn of the year and Zola was unable to build on an impressive start to the season because of injuries.
The Alex finished 18th in League Two last season and Zola believes the squad are determined to improve on a disappointing final position.
"Every season is a big season and you always want to do better than you did in the season before," added the former Newcastle trainee.
