Crewe caretaker boss Dario Gradi has promoted chief scout Neil Baker to a first team coaching role again.
Baker was Gradi's long-term assistant but was frozen out by Gudjon Thordarson, who was sacked last week.
Gradi told BBC Radio Stoke: "Neil had been sitting at home twiddling his thumbs, but I've always felt he was a wise old head to turn to."
The veteran manager has also revealed that assistant manager Steve Davis' job is safe despite Thordarson's departure.
The former Nantwich Town boss was hired by the Icelander during the summer as part of a backroom reshuffle at Gresty Road.

"He will do a lot of the work. I am at ease with Steve," said Gradi.
"He came in and made friends with everybody. We have a way of player that's different so I need to cement that in."
