Thordarson's Crewe travel to Bournemouth on Saturday
Crewe manager Gudjon Thordarson says he has been encouraged by the start that his side have made to the new season.
Following the disappointment of relegation in May, the Alex have taken nine points from their opening four matches of the League Two campaign.
"I was disappointed to lose against Dagenham, but our position at the moment is something for us to build on," Thordarson told BBC Radio Stoke.
Crewe have won their last three league matches without conceding a goal.
The Alex were one of the favourites for promotion during pre-season, but Thordarson has said that the signing of Sol Campbell should guarantee Notts County one of the three automatic spots.
Former England international Campbell, 34, joined the Magpies on a five-year deal on Wednesday, after leaving Premier League side Portsmouth.
"In my mind, one place has already gone for promotion to Notts County, and there's only two places left for the others to fight for," said Thordarson.
Five sides - Crewe, Notts County, Bournemouth, Rotherham and Dagenham and Redbridge - are level at the top of the League Two table on nine points.
