McIndoe played for seven different clubs before joining Bristol City in 2007
Coventry City have signed Bristol City's much-travelled Scottish wide man Michael McIndoe for an undisclosed fee.
The 29-year-old ex-Wolves winger had also been a target of Sheffield United, who themselves had a fee accepted.
But, after passing a Sky Blues medical on Tuesday, he has opted to return to the West Midlands on a two-year deal.
Bristol City boss Gary Johnson said: "Sometimes players need new ambitions. I personally feel this is the right time for Michael."
McIndoe made the last move of his career two years ago, moving on to Ashton Gate for an undisclosed six-figure fee after falling out of favour under Mick McCarthy at Wolves.
And he has enjoyed two largely successful seasons for the Robins, making 98 appearances in all competitions, scoring 13 goals.
But the talented Edinburgh-born Scotland B international has never enjoyed a reputation for stopping too long at any of his eight clubs.
After leaving his first club Luton Town, he spent time in non-league with Hereford United and Yeovil Town before returning to league football with Doncaster Rovers in the summer of 2003.
He spent three years there, including a loan spell at Derby County, before moving on to Barnsley.
He did not stay long at Oakwell before moving onto Molineux initially on loan, before becoming a key part of Wolves' ultimately failed bid to go up via the Championship play-offs.
A year later, in his first season with Bristol City, he then went one step further, helping his team to the play-off final.
But it now looks likely that any further attempts to reach the Premier League will be with one of City's Championship rivals.
Coventry finished seven places below 10th-placed Bristol last season. But they have money to spend after the sale of Danny Fox to Celtic.
And, in McIndoe, they have their eye on a man who already knows where the net is at the Ricoh Arena, having scored there for the past two seasons - each time in 3-0 away wins.
