Colchester United full-back Matt Lockwood says he is hoping for a fresh start at the club following manager Paul Lambert's departure to Norwich.
The 32-year-old was frozen out of the first team under Lambert but played in Tuesday's defeat by Gillingham.
He told BBC Essex: "I was banished to training with the kids, I didn't see the first team at all.
"When I heard he was going to Norwich I was probably the happiest man in Colchester," he added.
The former Nottingham Forest and Leyton Orient player is now hoping for a brighter future with the club.
"It was brilliant to be back out there and having a run about with the first team. I stayed mentally strong and fortunately things have turned round and things might change," he said.
