Grays Athletic chief executive Mike Woodward has stood down from his post after 10 years of running the club.

The former chairman and manager will retain his shareholding in the Blue Square Premier club.

Woodward has handed control of the club to a newly formed committee, who he backed to take the club forward.

Meanwhile, the club have signed Dagenham & Redbridge defender Anwar Uddin and Tottenham goalkeeper Lee Butcher on short-term loan deals.

Woodward's eventful tenure at Grays over the past decade saw him bankroll the club up to the top-flight of the non-league game, while they also won the FA Trophy twice.

He stood down as chairman at the end of last season, but was confident the new structure replacing him will be able to take the club forward.

"[They] have the acumen and drive to push the club forward and carry on with my aim to achieve League status," he said in a club statement.

"I have, in my time as chairman, enjoyed the experience immensely and I am extremely proud of what has been achieved during my term here, both on the playing side and the vast improvements made to the ground," he added.
