Paul Lambert is pleased with the progress of one youth player
Colchester United manager Paul Lambert is hoping young midfielder Sam Corcoran can become a regular for the U's.
The 17-year-old came off the bench on Saturday for his first-team debut in the 89th minute.
Lambert told BBC Essex: "We've given him a little glimmer of hope and hopefully he'll progress.
"He's on the right road to being a footballer and whatever level he eventually plays at, he's earned the right to be here."
Colchester consigned Hereford to relegation from League One after beating them 2-0 at Edgar Street at the weekend.
Lambert made his players go and thank the travelling fans following the victory after supporters booed the players in the aftermath of the home defeat to Brighton.
"The fans are the lifeblood of the club and the players owe them. They certainly should give them a performance," he said.
The U's penultimate game of the season is against promotion chasing Peterborough United.
