Francis wants Southend to restore their pride in their final two games
Southend defender Simon Francis has said Leicester City should not have been given a penalty on Saturday.
Francis was adjudged to have handled the ball in the area with Matty Fryatt putting the Foxes ahead with his resulting spot-kick.
The 24-year-old told BBC Essex: "The ball took a difficult bounce and it's kind of hit my shoulder. In no way did I try to handle the ball.
"I think it definitely hit my shoulder and it's just not a penalty at all."
Speaking about the result Francis said he felt Southend performed better than the scoreline suggested.
"It's not as if we were played off the park or Leicester were a better team. In parts of the game we were on top of them and had plenty of chances in the box."
And for Francis the two remaining matches, against Oldham and Cheltenham, are about salvaging pride.
"It's all individual and some are playing for contracts next season and people will still be watching our games."
