Walker has signed a two-year contract with Essex |
New Essex signing Matt Walker has said he made the right decision in leaving Kent to join the county. The 35-year-old batsman hit an unbeaten 69 in Sunday's Friends Provident Trophy win over Northamptonshire. After 16 years of first-class cricket with Kent, Walker said the time was right for him to move. "It's something I probably needed in my career. As much as I enjoyed it a move gives you a new lease of life," he told BBC Essex. "It's nice to play with a really young bunch of lads, who are very competitive and have a great will to win."
