Colchester wrap up Vincent deal

Ashley Vincent
Vincent has attracted interest from a number of clubs

Colchester have signed Cheltenham winger Ashley Vincent on loan until the end of the season.

The U's had been battling with fellow League One side MK Dons for the signature of the 23-year-old who scored 13 goals for the Robins in 131 games.

"I spoke to a couple of other clubs, but I know Steven Gillespie and also Lewis Gobern from my youth team days," Vincent told BBC Essex.

"So that made it an easier decision to choose this club."

Vincent added: "It's a team that are obviously looking to go places, they've just come down from the Championship last year and are close to play-offs this year.

"They're not many points away with nine games to go, so I just want to come in, give it my all and see if I can lend a hand until the rest of the season."

Vincent is currently recovering from injury so will be unavailable for this weekend's trip to Leicester.

Colchester are also hopeful of signing a central defender before Saturday's trip to Leicester.

Lambert says that deal is '90% done.'
