Cheltenham will be without winger Ashley Vincent for up to three weeks after he suffered a medial knee ligament injury in the draw at Swindon.
Vincent, 23, had been lined up for a loan move to Brentford but that is now in jeopardy.
And his absence will further hit Town's hopes of staying in League One.
"It's a blow. He's got a good scoring record of just over one in three from the right of midfield," boss Martin Allen told BBC Radio Gloucestershire.
"That's a good ratio. He's a player I offered a contract to a month ago and he rejected it. It's a blow for us and a blow for him."
Vincent added: "I was worried in my situation that it was going to be worse news, so in the grand scheme of things it isn't that bad."
