Colchester United caretaker manager Geraint Williams is waiting to have his interview for the job, according to BBC Essex.

Williams has overseen a draw and a win since taking temporary charge after the departure of Steve Whitton.

He has applied for the vacancy and is waiting to have talks with Colchester chairman Peter Heard.

"I know the chairman has had a first round of interviews with a few candidates," said Williams.

"But my understanding is it was people he didn't know too well so he wanted to see them first.

"There'll be more talks with people he knows he wants to see and those who've impressed from the first round."
