Oxford United loan out Matt Green to Cheltenham Town

Green has scored 24 goals in 88 appearances for Oxford

Cheltenham Town have signed Oxford United striker Matt Green on loan for the rest of the season.

The 24-year-old has started only eight league games, usually having to settle for a place on the bench this campaign.

"I had interest from some other clubs so I had to take that in to account, but I'm really happy with the way it's gone," Green told BBC Gloucestershire.

"I'm looking forward to the challenge. Cheltenham's ideal, it's not far from where I live, it was a no-brainer."

Green began his career at Newport County before being moving to Cardiff City where he struggled to establish himself, going out on loan to Darlington and two spells with Oxford.

He joined Torquay in 2008, but spent the whole of the 2009-10 season on loan at Oxford, scoring the opener in their 3-1 play-off final win over York, before joining permanently in June 2010. However, he is not looking beyond this season yet.

"I've got another year left on my contract at Oxford," Green explained.

"The main thing is I'm not looking for next season I'm looking to do well and be a success for Cheltenham.

"I'm just going to focus on now and the job I've got to do."

Green, who has scored twice this season, did not feature in the 1-1 League Two draw between Oxford and Cheltenham at the Kassam Stadium on 29 January.
