Triallist Duane Courtney is hopeful of earning a long-term contract at Cheltenham Town.

The 26-year-old defender was released by York City last week and appeared for the Robins reserve side in a friendly against Coventry City.

He told BBC Radio Gloucestershire: "Anywhere I go I want to show what I can do and I've played for [Cheltenham manager] Mark Yates before.

"If it's right for them and for Cheltenham then it's right for me."

He added: "I'd love to sign for Cheltenham, it's a great club and obviously working under that management Cheltenham will go places."

Courtney played under Yates at Kidderminster Harriers and worked with assistant manager Neil Howarth during his time at AFC Telford United.

On his departure from York City the full-back said: "I'm not really going to dwell on it or hold any grudges against York at all - it's a fresh start for me and my season starts now really because everything that's gone now has gone."
