Cheltenham's Julian Alsop rues their inconsistency
Alsop is Cheltenham's second highest scorer in the Football League
Veteran Cheltenham Town striker Julian Alsop has warned his younger team-mates over their inconsistent form that has seen them win just once in 14 games.
The efforts of the 36-year-old, who returned in the summer after five years in non-league football, have been a rare bright spot in the Robins' run.
"To be honest we've been garbage," Alsop told BBC Radio Gloucestershire.
"We've been alright in one game and bad in three games, it's got to be the other way round and more than that."
Alsop is also frustrated at the pace at which the team is learning and feels that the importance of delivering performances and getting results is not hitting home.
"The older you get obviously the wiser you get, but I also think from when I was a kid to now they're wrapped in cotton wool a little bit."
"When we was kids [at Bristol Rovers] people like Brian Gayle, Ian Holloway and Gary Penrice absolutely slaughtered us if we made a mistake and we never did it again."
"They were the people that instilled in to me that consistency's the basis of being a good team."
"Looking at the table, as poor as we've been this year, we're only 12 points off the play offs - if we can pick up points over Christmas all of a sudden the dynamics of the season's changed."
As for his own status, Alsop insists he is still enjoying his second spell at the club which has seen him kept on under a series of short-term contracts.
"It runs out just before Christmas and I'll just wait and see what happens."
"Obviously nobody knows what's happening at the club at the moment, so when that's sorted out it might happen with me."
