Torquay secured their third win of the season over Cheltenham to move above their fellow League Two strugglers.
Chris Zebroski's 25-yard strike put the Gulls ahead against a side they have beaten in the Johnstone's Paint Trophy and the FA Cup already this season.
A mazy run from on-loan winger Jake Thomson allowed him to set up Scott Rendell to double Torquay's lead.
Just after half time, Zebroski released Thomson who capped a stunning display by firing in the home side's third.
Acting Cheltenham manager John Schofield told BBC Radio Gloucestershire:
"After last week the lads deserved the chance to keep the shirts, but no-one has done themselves any favours tonight.
"We spoke about consistency before the game and that's what we have to attain. You can't live on what you did previously.
"It's about being ruthless in both boxes.
"If we're going to dig out anyone for praise it would be Andy Gallinagh. He worked his socks off, and that's what League Two football is about, playing with your heart but using your head to control it.
"We need to compete better. If there are 50/50 balls or 60/40 balls in our favour we've got to come out with it."
