Carlisle United boss promises 'attacking' football
Abbott guided Carlisle to 14th in League One this season
Carlisle United manager Greg Abbott has promised supporters that his team will play a "more attacking" style of play in home games next season.
Abbott said he was conscious of the dip in attendances over the past year and would do all he can to get the crowds back to Brunton Park.
"Our average gate last season was 18th in League One. I want that to improve," he told BBC Radio Cumbria.
"I think we need to provide more excitement, more attacking football."
Attendances at Brunton Park dropped from 6,250 in the 2008/09 campaign to 5,210 this season.
We're ready to kick-on and bring in the kind of player who can improve results and the type of football we produce
Greg Abbott
"I'm going to put pressure on myself to say I want attendances to improve as much as the results," Abbott said.
"Results come first but my biggest thing next season is to try and improve crowds. I want that crowd statistic to go up."
Abbott helped guide the Cumbrians to a 14th place finish in League One along with a Wembley appearance in the Johnstone's Paint Trophy final.
"We've made massive strides," he said. "We're ready to kick-on and bring in the kind of player who can improve results and the type of football we produce.
"I think I've got a debt to the fans to give them the kind of exciting football they want, but they have to understand my job is also about results."
