Abbott's Carlisle side inflicted MK Dons' third straight loss on Tuesday
Carlisle United manager Greg Abbott praised his side's character after the 4-3 victory against MK Dons at Stadium MK on Tuesday.
The Cumbrians had been pegged back to 3-3 despite going three goals up before Joe Anyinsah netted a fourth to hand the visitors all three points.
"It's not so much the win but the way we approached the game," Abbott told BBC Radio Cumbria.
"Tonight we got our rewards for an honest performance."
Carlisle's recent form has been mixed, with defeat at Swindon and an unconvincing win against Morecambe off-set by progress in the Johnstone's Paint Trophy and home victory against Charlton.
And Abbott has urged his players to build on the win at Milton Keynes and develop consistency in their performances.
"I've got to look in a positive vein that the players are back and they're with it," said Abbott.
"They've got to produce on Saturday now, we can't be one week this and one week that, Swindon and MK Dons it can't happen in so far as the gulf in quality in both games just can't be there.
"We've got to try to do something about that."
Carlisle are 17th in League One, four points off the relegation zone, and remain in both the Johnstone's Paint Trophy and FA Cup.
