Swindon front man Charlie Austin netted the winner against Carlisle on his full debut to stretch the Robins' unbeaten streak to five successive games.
The game was only three minutes old when Austin turned a Billy Paynter cross beyond Carlisle keeper Lenny Pidgeley from eight yards out.
Carlisle's Joe Anyinsah spurned a chance to level soon afterwards when he shot wide after Matty Robson's pass.
Swindon substitute Alex Revell wastefully fired over late on.
Despite the widespread flooding in Cumbria, Carlisle's ground staff had worked through the night to clear flood water from the pitch.
Swindon manager Danny Wilson told BBC Wiltshire:
"We showed a fantastic professionalism. We had the benefit of getting an early goal.
"I thought throughout the game we looked very solid, determined. The defensive side of our game was immense today.
"This is a very, very big result for us today."
