| Wednesday, 2 May, 2001, 10:32 GMT 11:32 UK FA launches Carlisle investigation Knighton: Announced sale of club in January The FA is looking into allegations that former Carlisle chairman Michael Knighton is still involved in the running of the club. Knighton was banned from being a company director for five-and-a-half years in September 2000. His son Mark has since undertaken the day-to-day running of the club. Knighton - who is still the 93% majority shareholder at Brunton Park - announced the sale of the club to the mysterious Mamcarr investment company in January this year. But he has failed to provide the Football League with any evidence that the sale went through. Consortium member Stephen Brown had announced his intention to buy a 25% stake in the Third Division club but he was later exposed as an unemployed former curry house waiter. The FA stressed that there were no allegations of impropriety against Carlisle manager Ian Atkins or any of his players. | See also: 11 Jan 01 | Carlisle United 10 Jan 01 | Carlisle United 03 Jan 01 | Eng Div 3 Top Carlisle United stories now: Links to more Carlisle United stories are at the foot of the page. | ||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
