Rolls believes the current squad is capable of winning promotion
Cambridge United director George Rolls says there will be no transfer funds for manager Gary Brabin in January.
Rolls told BBC Radio Cambridgeshire: "We've got no money to spend, I don't want to give the fans false hope.
"I believe that the squad we've got is very capable of taking us into the Football League."
The U's will lose a striker having recently failed to extend Scott Rendell's loan deal from Peterborough United beyond the New Year.
Rolls has had to defend himself against a claim by Peterborough director of football Barry Fry that the U's director had withdrawn a transfer offer for Rendell.
Rolls rejected the claim and insisted the Abbey side had only inquired about extending the 22-year-old's loan move.
Brabin, meanwhile, will have to look at other short-term deals or players out of contract if he is to bolster his squad in the transfer window.
Rolls said: "We've backed the manager already. We've got a very tidy budget that we've given him.
"We've given him the tools to go out there and perform and we need to do that with the squad we've got."
