Peterborough United director of football Barry Fry believes manager Darren Ferguson would only leave London Road for a Premier League side.

Ferguson has been linked with a number of managerial vacancies in recent weeks, including Derby and QPR.

Fry told BBC Radio Cambridgeshire: "He'd be an absolute idiot to leave for a side who aren't in the top flight.

"Bar Wolves or Birmingham - who are as good as Premier League - there are no other sides worth going to."

No matter where he goes he won't find a better chairman than Darragh MacAnthony who's backed him to the hilt

By the end of January, Ferguson will have spent two years with Posh.

The 36-year-old son of Manchester United manager Sir Alex Ferguson won promotion to League One in his first full season at London Road.

Peterborough currently sit fourth in League One after 23 matches this season and Fry can see no reason why Ferguson should choose to leave the club.

"No matter where he goes he won't find a better chairman than Darragh MacAnthony who's backed him to the hilt," Fry said.

"He knows there's a credit crunch on, and he knows full well that he wouldn't be supported at other clubs in the way that he is supported here."

Meanwhile, having missed out on Arsenal youngster Jay Simpson, Fry says the club have no alternative transfer targets at the current time.

Simpson snubbed Posh in favour of Premier League West Brom.
