Preece hits out at racist fans
Bury player-manager Andy Preece
Preece has been abused by his own fans
Bury player-manager Andy Preece has vowed to stamp out racism at the club after he was abused by a section of the Shakers fans.

The player-boss was one of a number of victims of racist abuse from a section of the visiting fans during their game at Torquay on Saturday.

And recent behaviour by some of the Shakers fans have left Preece determined to stand up against the abusive minority.

"There is a racist problem at the club," he told the BBC.

"I think it's been going on for a while now, but I hadn't been totally made aware of it.

"One of the player's girlfriend has been spat at. His brother has been beaten up - and this is by Bury fans

"I was astounded when I heard about it.

"The only way to deal with these people is to stand up to them and be strong.

"We have to do more, the stewards have to do more and the police have to as well. They have to deal with it when they're pointed out.

I'm not going to tolerate it and I know the fans won't tolerate it

Andy Preece

"I don't think the stewards are doing enough. They were two yards away from the ones giving the abuse at Torquay and did nothing.

"We have to get them out the ground and get them banned. These are thugs masquerading as fans.

"We are only talking about maybe half a dozen but they're spoiling it for the others.

"I'm not going to tolerate it and I know the fans won't tolerate it and neither will the players."
