Alexander continues to represent Scotland at the age of 36
Burnley manager Owen Coyle has heaped praise on Scotland international Graham Alexander following a move from full-back to midfield.
He has been allocated a holding role in midfield which has seen the club keep four clean sheets in five games.
Coyle told BBC Radio Lancashire: "I know what I've got with him. I've got a guy who is a top professional."
The 36-year-old has scored three times in the last two games including both goals in the win at Nottingham Forest.
Coyle said: "He's a guy that's still capable of playing at international level and he's acquitted himself well to his new role.
"There looks a freshness to his play and he loves getting on the ball. He was unfairly criticised I thought at the start of the season.
"It's always easy to pick on the experienced lads but he's certainly shown since moving in to that role at Crystal Palace he's been absolutely outstanding for the football club."
