Bristol Rovers' Paul Trollope keen to keep Heffernan

Bristol Rovers manager Paul Trollope is hoping to keep on-loan Doncaster striker Paul Heffernan at the club until at least the end of the season.

Heffernan, 28, has just completed a month at the Memorial Stadium, scoring two goals in six games.

Trollope told BBC Radio Bristol that he is keen to keep him much longer term.

"If we can keep him until the end of the season, that'll be great. He's out of contract and has impressed us and fits into how we do things," he said.

Trollope says discussions about an extension to the agreement with Doncaster are already underway.

"He's a player we've been pleased with, he's on loan at the moment and we're in talks to extend that," he added.

Heffernan's partnership with Jo Kuffour played a big part in Rovers' 4-0 win at local rivals Swindon on Saturday, with both strikers on target.

Kuffour is keen for the opportunity to see that understanding develop further.

"We definitely have to sign Heffs for longer," said Kuffour. "He brings experience, he's a great player to play with and I think we've just started to link up well and hopefully, if he stays, we can continue what we've been doing."
