Pirates sign midfielder Blizzard

Bristol Rovers have secured their second signing of the summer by bringing Dominic Blizzard to the club.

The 25-year-old midfielder, who was out of contract at Stockport, has signed a three-year-deal with the Pirates.

Blizzard, who began his career at Watford, had spent two seasons at Edgeley Park and previously turned out for MK Dons, initially on loan.

"There's a lot of potential here. The gaffer sold the club to me. I was very impressed," he told BBC Radio Bristol.

"I was looking to move on and financially Stockport couldn't offer anyone a new contract as at the time they were going into administration.

"It probably wasn't best for me to stay and obviously when I knew of the interest here I was more than happy to come down."

Rovers have been looking to boost their midfield options and first-team coach Paul Trollope feels he has got the perfect man to bring new qualities to the middle of the park.

He told BBC Radio Bristol: "Dominic brings different attributes. He's a very good passer of the ball, can play in an attacking role or a defensive role.

"And he's a good footballer who fits in very nicely with the philosophy of how we want the game played.

"With Bosman signings the good ones are always sought after so we needed to be patient, the negotiations were pretty lengthy and we needed to sell him the club and the philosophy behind it."

Blackpool, Plymouth, Scunthorpe and Huddersfield were reportedly tracking Blizzard, who joins Carl Regan in arriving at the Memorial Stadium.
