Rovers deal incentive for Andrews

Bristol Rovers have promised striker Wayne Andrews a contract with the club providing he proves his fitness.

Andrews, 30, is currently training with the Pirates as he bids to recover from the injury he suffered while on loan at the club from Coventry last season.

And first-team coach Paul Trollope told BBC Radio Bristol: "We still want him on board but we're not paying him at the moment.

"But if he does get fit there will be something on the table."

Andrews is available on a free transfer after being released by the Sky Blues, but Trollope admitted he may have to move for other targets if the former Crystal Palace man remains out of action for an extended spell.

"If it's going to be six or eight weeks again we may be looking to add," said Trollope.

Meanwhile, Trollope has called on the club's younger players to prove they are worth a place in his first-team squad.

They can either be part of the group by performing well or they can go out on loan and we'll get others

"We want quality and we want progress and sometimes you have to be a bit ruthless along the way," added Trollope.

"There's no ultimatum there because there's a lot of football to be played and a lot of chances for everyone and it's up to them if they want to be part of it.

"There's a few who have been in and around the squad, who are 19, 20, 21 who we have got to assess over the next weeks to see where they are going.

"They can either be part of the group by performing well or they can go out on loan and we'll get others."
