Adriano Basso is still hoping for a move to a Premier League club
Bristol City manager Gary Johnson says it is hard to see any way back for goalkeeper Adriano Basso, even if he withdraws his transfer request.
There have been no enquiries for the 34-year-old Brazilian, who was put on the list last month.
"He really does feel he's waiting for this Premiership club," Johnson told BBC Radio Bristol.
"Therefore he's not in our plans and can't be because his thoughts are somewhere else."
Johnson added: "Sometimes you make your decisions and you have to stand or fall by them.
"It's not a good situation so you alleviate the problem by saying 'Thanks very much, you're not involved'.
"People know the rules. If they put in a transfer request knowing what the circumstances are they can expect everything they get."
Summer signing Dean Gerken will start against Preston on Saturday.
But, although he shot down rumours that he is trying to sign Kasper Schmeichel from Manchester City, Johnson hopes to add another keeper to the squad on a season-long deal before the weekend.
"It's amazing how these things come about," he said. "You can't believe everything you hear from the drunk in the pub!
"Some speculation is quite close, some is a million miles away, like this one."
