Brighton sign midfielder Crofts

Andrew Crofts
Crofts says he left the Gills for "non-football reasons"

Brighton have signed Wales midfielder Andrew Crofts on a two-year deal, following his release by Gillingham.

Crofts, 25, who was let go in April, is Russell Slade's fifth summer signing.

Crofts told BBC Sussex: "We've been talking for a few weeks now and I'm glad it's done, the manager seems brilliant and I'm keen to get going.

"I've scored a few goals there [at the Withdean], including my first ever goal on my debut so hopefully I can score some for Albion now."

Albion boss Slade is also hoping to make another signing in the next 24 hours.

Meanwhile, Tony Godden has been made permanent goalkeeping coach and Jim Joyce is set to join from Aldershot as head physio.

The club's League One home game with Gillingham in September has been moved back to Tuesday, 13 October because of the Labour Party conference.
