New Worthing Thunder coach Dave Titmuss believes he can make the club a serious force in the BBL.
The former Thames Valley Tigers and England coach replaces Gary Smith at the Sussex outfit, who finished second bottom in their first BBL season.
He told BBC Sussex: "They ran some teams close last season, but what they need is a change in the culture of how they prepare and organise.
"We are still a small budget team, but work is being done off-court on that."
Titmuss's appointment does not leave him too long to build a new team and put together a full pre-season campaign.
He said: "It's a bit tight, but we should be OK. The perfect scenario would be a six-week pre-season but I don't think that is going to happen. I'm in this for the long haul, so lets take a slightly longer view of it."
Smith was released in search of a full-time head coach at the end of the season.
