Brighton have given defender Adam Hinshelwood a contract until the end of the season following his impressive recent return to first-team action.
Hinshelwood was on a month-to-month deal but manager Micky Adams said the 24-year-old - who has suffered badly with knee injuries - deserved more.
"Adam's return has been a massive bonus for us," he said.
"He has got a very good turn of pace and I think we have really benefitted with him back in the side."
Since making his professional debut in 2002, Oxford-born Hinshelwood has made 85 appearances for Brighton, scoring two goals in the process.
But he has already had to overcome four cruciate ligament knee injuries during that period.
"Adam understands we have to take things one step at a time," said Seagulls chairman Dick Knight.
"But this gives him security until the end of the season and the opportunity to secure his long-term future with the club."
