McCall is preparing for his third season in charge at Valley Parade
Bradford manager Stuart McCall will name the Bantams' new captain in the next week, with Peter Thorne and Zesh Rehman in line to get the armband.
City are in need of a new skipper after Graeme Lee's move to Notts County.
McCall told BBC Radio Leeds: "Peter Throne has a lot of respect in the dressing room - he's not a shouter and bawler, and is one of the candidates.
"Zesh Rehman has come back really well in pre-season, defending well and leading by example."
Striker Thorne, 36, captained City in their last two pre-season friendlies, against Manchester City and Barnsley.
Defender Rehman signed for Bradford on a two-year deal after spending the second half of last season on loan at Valley Parade from QPR.
The Pakistan international, 25, made 17 appearances for City after arriving at the club in January and has taken a pay cut to make the switch permanent.
McCall, who will be naming both a club captain and a team captain, added: "I'll decide in the next week or so. Whoever gets it out of them two, I'll be happy."
