Barrow sign Marine striker Lee McEvilly

McEvilly spent time on loan with Barrow last season

Blue Square Premier side Barrow have signed Marine striker Lee McEvilly on a short-term deal.

McEvilly, 27, has proven his fitness while with Marine, scoring twice in six games and joint boss Darren Sheridan sees the striker's arrival as an asset.

"He's experienced, we know what he's about and we think he's a good addition," he told BBC Radio Cumbria.

"He can score goals, he's a big lad and people will be wary of him. He's played in the league so he can't be bad."

McEvilly's return to Holker Street, following his spell on loan last season, brings Barrow's quota of strikers to four, alongside Jason Walker, Gregg Blundell and Nick Chadwick.

And Sheridan admitted the club needs such depth to cope with a heavy fixture schedule between now and the end of the season.

"We do at this time of the season, it's a hard time now," Sheridan said.

"We've got a lot of games, midweek games coming up, so to have four strikers is good.

"The other strikers know we've brought Lee in and they've got to keep their place, and if they're not doing it then we can change things."

Liverpool-born McEvilly, who has one cap for Northern Ireland, began his career with Burscough and has since enjoyed spells with Rochdale, Accrington Stanley, Wrexham and Cambridge.
