Barrow admit interest in players

Dave Bayliss
Bayliss does not want to see players leave Holker Street

Barrow joint-manager Dave Bayliss has revealed that The Bluebirds have received several enquiries for their players in recent weeks.

Bayliss would not reveal the identity of the clubs or their targets but said he was reluctant to allow players to leave Holker Street.

"We've had a number of enquiries about some of our lads," Bayliss told BBC Radio Cumbria.

"But we don't want to let anyone go. We want to keep this squad together."

Barrow have made an impressive start to their new Blue Square Premier campaign following their promotion last season with three wins and one defeat from their opening five games.

We want to get a settled team and if that means extending Paul's Black's loan then hopefully we can come to some sort of agreement

"We haven't got a massive squad so we don't want to lose anyone," Bayliss said. "The enquiries have been about lads who are playing and lads who aren't playing at the moment."

Bayliss, meanwhile, is not ruling out the possibility of extending Paul Black's loan from League One side Oldham Athletic. The 18-year-old has impressed in his two appearances so far after signing a one-month deal.

"The last thing we need is to be playing different players week-in, week-out," he said. "We want to get a settled team and if that means extending Paul's loan then hopefully we can come to some sort of agreement.

"He's settled in really well but we still need more from him. He's done OK but we expect a lot more.

"He's definitely one for the future but I think he's playing at only 80% of what he can do so when he gets used to the level he will be a really good player."

Meanwhile defender Steve McNulty will face intensive treatment on his groin injury this week ahead of the visit of Stevenage on Saturday.

"With not being full-time it's difficult," Bayliss said. "Ideally you like to get the player in the day after the injury to get attention but we can't do that.

"He'll get as much treatment as we can give him and hopefully he will be OK for Saturday."

Bayliss has also revealed that goalkeeper Tim Deasy played the full 90 minutes of Monday's 1-1 draw at York City with a fractured thumb.

"We knew about it after the Mansfield game but fair play to him, he wanted to play and I thought he was a different class."
