Barrow happy to wait for signings

Dave Bayliss
Bayliss will take his time in the transfer market

Joint Barrow manager Dave Bayliss says the club will continue to take their time in the transfer market ahead of the new Blue Square Premier season.

Barrow have made just one signing this summer in striker Lee Hunt from Welsh Premier side Rhyl FC.

"We know we need a few more new faces," Bayliss told BBC Radio Cumbria.

"But the last thing we want to do is sign someone we are not sure about. Unless the right player becomes available we won't be rushed."

Bayliss and fellow joint-manager Darren Sheridan are taking a look at two trialists who are training with the club this week as The Bluebirds prepare for their first season back in the top flight of non-league for nine years.

"We've changed our training around a little bit and the lads are enjoying it," Bayliss said.

"We want the players to play with a smile on their faces. If they do that, they will enjoy their football a lot more."

We want teams to hate playing Barrow

Bayliss has also revealed that the club are looking at loan options but are finding it difficult to bring players in to Holker Street.

"Clubs are reluctant to let players go at this time," he told BBC Radio Cumbria's Matchnight programme.

"Players are trying to impress so managers often wait until the end of pre-season before letting their players go.

"We might have wait until the season starts before we can get the players in."

Barrow will open the new season at home to Oxford United on Friday 8 August with a trip to Altrincham four days later and Bayliss says it is important to get off to the best possible start.

"We're not going into the new season just to make up the numbers. We are really confident." he said.

"The last thing we are going to do is give anyone respect because we're not like that. We want teams to hate playing Barrow.

"Clubs will know when they play us that we will be in their faces and we will compete against anyone, even if they may be full-time," he added.
