Middlesbrough midfielder Didier Digard opened his account with the winner in Wednesday's 2-1 win at Carlisle United.
The 21-year-old, who joined from French side Paris Saint-Germain in July, struck from around 30 yards out to settle a close-fought game.
Boro took the lead just after half-time thanks to a cool finish from Digard's compatriot Jeremie Aliadiere.
Danny Carlton levelled minutes later but Digard's goal was enough to break Carlisle's resistance.
Next up for Middlesbrough is a trip to Easter Road to face Mixu Paatelainen's Hibernian on Saturday, 2 August.
Carlisle run out for their final friendly appearance against Workington Reds on Monday, 4 August.
