The New Saints have suspended captain and former Wales international defender Steve Evans for an alleged breach of club standards.

The 31-year-old missed Wednesday's League Cup draw with Airbus UK.

Mold magistrates had fined him £200 after he admitted an offence reported to involve urinating in the street.

"The New Saints have suspended Steve Evans for a publicised incident pending a disciplinary hearing," a spokesman told BBC Radio Shropshire.

"Whilst Steve is our captain and one of our most significant players, we have to uphold certain standards."

The spokesman added: "He will not take part in Sunday's Welsh Premier fixture against Aberystwyth Town, or any further games, until the outcome of the hearing is known."

Evans has made 190 Welsh Premier appearances in two spells with Saints, and was capped seven times for Wales whilst playing for Wrexham.

He appeared before magistrates on 4 October where he admitted a public order offence committed in his home town of Wrexham on 20 September.

He was ordered to pay a £200 fine and £100 costs.
