Welsh international Steve Evans put aside his Wrexham worries to be inducted as a New Saints legend.

"Two years ago I was playing for TNS in the League of Wales and at 26 thinking my time was passing, so it's been a bit of a whirlwind," he said.

Tomi Morgan was also honoured, as were former Oswestry Town pair Mickey Ryan and Ken Swinnerton.

Fifty years ago, Ryan hit 58 goals in a single season. "They'll never beat that," he said.

Ryan broke off a holiday in Ireland to attend The New Saints' ceremony.

"I'm a local lad and I feel really proud to be remembered by the club," he told BBC Radio Shropshire.

Morgan, who now manages Welshpool, was a goalscorer too, reviving his playing career for Llansantffraid in his mid-30s.

And former Oswestry boss Swinnerton added: "European football was what we dreamed of, and here it is - a reality."
