TNS consider Oswestry name change

Jonathan Martin
Jonathan Martin - has taken on board the fans' views

The famous old footballing name of Oswestry Town could be revived - due to popular demand.

The club merged with Llansantffraid a few years ago, but have moved back to Oswestry under The New Saints banner.

"A lot of feedback locally has been that the name of Oswestry should be more prominent," director Jonathan Martin told BBC Radio Shropshire.

"We surveyed fans for their views. We're discussing what they've said, and we'll make an announcement very soon."

The new facilities at the Park Hall stadium are well used during the week, but the club has failed to reach its Saturday attendance targets for League of Wales games.

In the board's mind is that making the club's Oswestry identity more prominent would be one way to attract more local support - and it's a subject that's been hotly discussed in the area.
