TNS convert to saintly new name
TNS will change their badge to reflect the new name
TNS will change their badge to reflect the new name
Total Network Solutions, the Welsh Premier League champions for the past two seasons, will start the season under the new name The New Saints.

The club was forced to change its name after backers Total Network Solutions was purchased by British Telecom, ending the sponsorship deal.

The club, a merger between Oswestry Town and Llansantffraid, put its name up for internet auction in April.

But a successful bid has not been established in time to meet Uefa rules.

TNS will begin their season with a Champions League qualifier in July.

The Champions League draw takes place on 23 June, with the first leg of the first qualifying round scheduled to be played on either 11 or 12 July.

While the search for a sponsor continues, TNS were forced to adopt a new name because of regulations from Uefa, European football's governing body.

"One offer in particular was a front-runner," said TNS managing director Mike Harris.

"But we were unable to agree a mutually acceptable deal in time for our Uefa Champions League campaign, as a new name had to be agreed by the Football Association of Wales before this weekend.

"We could not continue to use the Total Network Solutions name after the end of last season and needed to find a new name for the club.

"The New Saints - and the new badge we are adopting - reflects the fact that the club is a recent merger of Llansantffraid and Oswestry Town football clubs.

"Llansantffraid has always been known by the nickname 'Saints' and the town of Oswestry has strong connections with Saint Oswald."

The new name, which has been agreed by the league's board of directors and the FAW council, will be ratified at the annual general meeting of clubs on Saturday.
