Steve Evans has won six international caps for Wales (Wrexham FC)
The New Saints have re-signed Wales international centre-half Steve Evans from Wrexham as they continue their bid for the Welsh Premier League title.
The six foot, 29-year-old stopper has fallen out of favour since the appointment of Dean Saunders as Wrexham boss in early October.
He played in Wrexham's last two games, scoring in what proved to be his final appearance at the Racecourse.
But he was allowed to leave to join TNS ahead of Monday's transfer deadline.
And Evans, who still had five months to run on his contract at Wrexham, is now expected to make his first start back in a Saints shirt in this Saturday's crunch home clash with title rivals Llanelli.
TNS will start the afternoon third in the Welsh Premier League five points behind Rhyl and Llanelli, having played a game more than the top two.
We started Steve Evans' career and we're delighted he's come back to the club to continue it
Saints director Mike Harris
Evans, who failed to make the breakthrough after being on the books at both Crewe Alexandra, first joined Saints in 1999.
He won three titles in his seven seasons at Saints, scoring 24 goals from 142 league appearances.
He appeared in four Champions League ties, including both legs against Liverpool, which encouraged then Wrexham boss Denis Smith to take him to the Racecourse in the summer of 1996.
And that helped Evans earn his six Wales caps under John Toshack.
"He will be a big asset," director Mike Harris told the club website.
"We started Steve's career and we are delighted he has come back to the club to continue it."
